This year, our Easter was super easygoing, and I’m actually glad it was all about having some spring fun for the kids. The weather did not cooperate (it was a wash out for our yearly Easter egg hunt), but we improvised and made it fun and simple for the boys.
In college and before having kids, I was so not about the holiday life. I never decorated, or even wished I had the time and energy to do so. For me, the whole thing just felt silly. I was hyper aware of how our society pushed us to buy, buy, buy during the holidays.
Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter… It all felt so over the top to me. I guess it felt that way mostly because I didn’t grow up in the U.S. And that my parents were never big on decorating the house either. We had a Christmas Tree and some decorations for Christmas, and did an Easter egg hunt at home, but that was about it.
As you can imagine, after having kids of my own, this mindset drastically changed.

It became so fun to me to see the holidays through my children’s eyes. Participate in their unbridled excitement for every holiday. Liam is ecstatic about celebrations, and this makes me want to make every single holiday extra special for him, and now his brother, too.
In a nutshell: I’m your average mom!
I thought I’d share some of our photos from our Easter weekend, because even though we didn’t make it a huge affair, it did feel extra special and intimate. Maybe that’s also because Joe has been working two jobs and we were all together for most of the weekend. The kids and I were so happy.
Or maybe it was because this was our first year with both boys participating in the fun. Noah was only two months old last year. Whatever it was, the whole weekend just felt so easygoing, uncomplicated, and about the most important thing of all: family.

FRIDAY: OUTDOOR EGG HUNT
_______
Harvest Moon was kind enough to offer an alternate date for the Saturday egg hunt (they had to cancel it because of the rain – we would’ve been bummed if we’d missed it!). We go every year and it has become a sort of family tradition. It’s a really cute event and they go the extra mile by having a hay ride, horse rides, face painting, and BBQ food available for families. It’s a really cute spot to go apple picking during the fall, too!
The tees the boys wore are from Modern Mom Store, and I was amazed at how soft and breathable they were. The kids were so comfy and Liam actually asks to sleep in his from time to time. That’s how you know it’s a good one! Camelia sells the cutest matching tees for siblings and mamas + their littles, but also some other awesome designs for all. She has a great holiday collection. Check out her Etsy shop here!

SATURDAY: INDOOR EGG HUNT AT HOME,
PHOTOS WITH THE EASTER BUNNY
& PLAY DATE AT THE WESTCHESTER MALL
_______
First things first, we woke Liam up and told him the Easter Bunny had left a bunch of eggs behind but had to go because of the rain. He flew out of bed and had so much fun looking around the house. We gave him an Easter basket full of little dollar story trinkets (no candy!) which occupied him all morning.

Here’s the deal: I really don’t like mall photos. I find them inauthentic and ridiculously overpriced for a photo with a bunny or Santa. I’ve always resisted these sorts of things, but it was pouring, the kids had cabin fever, and our friends texted us that they were going with their boys because they wanted sibling pics. We made a play date out of it (the Westchester has an awesome play space for kiddos) and had lunch in their renovated food court. It was actually really fun… and better than staying cooped up at home! And the kids (especially Noah) did surprisingly well with the Easter Bunny. Okay, he looks super confused, but it’s not tears, right? You guys remember his cake smash fiasco, right?
I’ll take it!
And how darn adorable are the kids’ matching tees? We got them from Custom Buffalo Chic, another great custom tee Etsy shop! I love Amanda’s aesthetic for boys’ tees! Check them out here!

We even got an Easter craft in that day! Woohoo! Thank you, Pinterest 😉 Such a great resource for spring-themed crafts and spring fun for kids.

SUNDAY: Egg Hunt @ Nana’s
Family Fun Day
_______
We ended the weekend with a pasta lunch at my mother in law’s and it was the most relaxing day ever! She put together a little egg hunt for the boys in the backyard and we basically hung out all day and enjoyed the weather. Liam also got to dye some eggs with his aunt Nichole! I’m so glad we managed to squeeze in some spring fun for kids. What a perfect way to end the weekend.
